Back in 1976 in FL the right to work state or you get paid by the sunshine we have. I kid you not that was the thinking back then. Being out of work this elder needed help building a foundation for a house. He told me he would treat me well and it was only a 2 day job. Both days ended up 12 hours each. instead of paying me after the job was done it took me 2 months to get my money. I finally got my money all $20.00 worth. I was so upset over this but I could not do anything about it because I had nothing in writing or a agreed amount he would pay me. Then at the age of 22 I believed we needed to respect elders and not talk back to them. So I walk away not saying a word. I should have known better 2 years before that his brother under cut a job we was going to start the next day. We came to work finding him on the job site doing the job. When we asked him why he did this he said he needed the money more that I needed it because he had kids and I was just married. Again because of the way I was raised I walk away without saying a word. It took me awhile to stand up for myself but JW's were I lived are some of the cheapest and cunning people I have ever known. Working for JW's
by idiotnomore injust interested in experiences any of you have had working for other witnesses or companies owned by witnesses.
i heard mutterings occassionally from other witnesses they would never work for another witness.
regardless of anything i said, the owner was adamant in his refusal to believe i had ever done anything more than being a delivery driver.

At my last elder school I went to. Last talk ended with this elder shouting "Are we happy that we have the FDS to teach us elders what we need to do and do we show total obedience to their instruction?" Everyone in the room stood up and clap their hands in agreement. No mention of god or his son. That is when I knew I was in a cult. Still Totally ADD

A rose by any other name..............
by sparrowdown ini'm curious, why and how did you choose your username?.
does it hold any special significance for you, is there a share-able back story?.
for me sparrowdown is a playful reference to matt 10:29 and the title of the movie black hawk down.. matt 10:29 was my go-to scrip to "prove" that god cares about us as individuals.

I was 53 years old when I started to wake up because I found out I suffered with ADD. When I started on the meds for ADD my mind seem to open up so I could think clearly. So when I came on this site I used the name Totally ADD. Two years ago my computer died. When I got a new one and tried to log on I forgot my password so I signed up again with the new user name Still Totally ADD and yes I still on the meds. LOL Still Totally ADD

How old were you when baptized?
by Coded Logic ini was baptized at the age of 11. like most of us, my commitment wasnt to honor god but rather i was gang pressed into the service of the wtbts.
and, at such a young age, it was impossible for me to appreciate the enormity of my actions.
honestly, how could i possibly have known any better?

Stukinarut2 I laughed`at your comment. I was 16 years old when I was baptized in St. Pete FL but the water was so hot it turned my skin red. So when you were baptized you were cold and I was hot. LOL Still Totally ADD

I get on these threads way to long after the fact. LOL Me 60years old my wife 61. I married a Kitten. LOL Trying to wait until 66 to get SS. We both work but only can find part time work. We live very frugal have no house or car payments. Raise a big garden for food. Have 6 chickens for eggs and later soup. Learned how to repurpose almost everything. The only help we get is once a month a local food bank gives us some food. Right now we are working on starting a learning center at our home on herbs. The name of our business is "Love Your Weeds". My wife the herbalist will teach the classes. I also do some furniture refinishing and furniture building. Thanks to the affordable care act we both have health insurance. It cost us only $30.00 a month. We have been told our house is worth some money by a realtor. We are looking into selling it and move into something cheaper and put the rest of the money in the bank. Our retirement will be very busy working and hopefully traveling a little. The sell everything off and live in a RV for the rest of our life was just a big dream. We still have our hopes that things will work out for the better. Still Totally ADD

The other day Reopened Mind and I was talking about this on our drive home from a potluck with friends. It dawn on me this would have been the night to get dressed and go to a meeting. I told my wife don't it feel good not to worry about driving at night to go to the KH or someones house. She said she has totally forgotten about doing that anymore. We went on about all the things we would have to do during the week concerning the Wt. It was no wonder we was tried all the time. The only thing my wife said she missed was dressing up for the meetings. I smiled and said I hated the tie and suit put at lease now when we do dress up it is for a party or some special event not to set in a KH for 2 hours or a sport event building for 6 hours listening to cult talk. We both smiled and started talking about the fall to come. Still Totally ADD

HELP needed for a friend, please. Anyone?..
by defender of truth ina friend of mine (who has recently started reading jwn) is having trouble eating and sleeping because, even after having recently woken up to ttatt.. they are still concerned about 'demons, everlasting destruction, and jehovahs disapproval'.. i've tried to encourage them.
i'm sure you all understand that these things can take time, the transition period is often painful, to some extent.
i'm still struggling with anger and depression myself.. i'll be away from jwn, off the internet, and thus out of contact with them for a while (don't ask why)... so please don't expect me to reply to or even look at what you post, .

Have them read Steve Hassan book on Mind control cults. This should help them reason their way out of the Wt. mind control cult. What you have told us shows the power mind control cults have over people. Still Totally ADD

What are we talking about when we say "living forever"? 1000 years, 10,000 years, 100,000 years, million, billion. The problem is we can not even think what it would be like to live even 1000 years. This planet is just a sub-atomic particle compared to the rest of the universe when it comes to size. So what does that make us? Really nothing. This is all wishful thinking. I agree to what some have said "enjoy life that you have now, do what you can do to make life better for others and will as yourself, be happy and show love to all". This idea of living forever is all just a dream. Now if all could live to 100 years of age with no health problems and able to take care of yourself. Now that would be worth working for instead of living a dream. Still Totally ADD

Was droping bomb on Hiroshima in 1945 evil?
by new hope and happiness insorry for such a depressing question, but i was moved by a picture i saw of the consequences.
( a woman carrying her child) and i realised:-.
a) it was a civillian population.. b) i don't see how a nuclear holocaust can ever be right.. c) they could have bombed tokyo where all the generals lived but chose hiroshima.. d) the irony after the bombing america conceeded to many of japans terms.. your opinion would be valued..

My father was a radio man on B29's that flew over Japan and drop the fire bombs on their factories. He also got to see the first A bomb before it was drop on Hiroshima. He told me it was smaller than the ones they was dropping. They all had no idea at that time what it was capable of doing. A few weeks after both bombs was dropped my father told me they took all the B29's in the area and flew 500 feet over Japan main cities and also Hiroshima as a sign of force to the Japanese people to show them they need to give up and the US was superior over them. He first hand saw the destruction the first bomb did in other words the pictures we all may have seen in our history books he witness it first hand. He always said the Japanese was reglious fanatics and they would have fought to the end but the dropping of the 2 bombs he felt saved more lives than they took. It wasn't until a few years ago before he died did he feel regret on the part he took in that war. Was it evil? I feel it all depends which side of coin you was on. To me all wars are evil. It's all about money and power. Still Totally ADD
